Have you ever wondered why you always seem to end up in the same place, same situations or with the same type of people in your life?! Surprisingly enough what most people don’t realise is that we tend to recreate the past over and over again often times without even realising it. I discover that many of us have one or two ways of dealing with our pasts, however, if we live in our past, we end up over-identifying, ruminating and letting ourselves be ruled by it.
No doubts, it is expected that the things and deeds we did in the past are to give us fruit in the present and also in the future. And our present which is going to be our past will give us its fruit in the future. We must realize that living in our past prevents us from living in the present and portray to us a failed future. Although, some persons seem to feel the pressure of the past! We should know that having future goals are much more important, as they provide you with something to aim for and even supply that necessary push that drives you to achieve. But what’s the point of having long-term goals when we aren’t even prepared to give all it takes to accomplish them?! How can we work towards achieving what we foresee for the future and live in the present, when our present is spent on carrying out actions or scheduling things for the past?!
Choose to live in the moment! – if you are truly present right now, then you can’t relive or condemn yourself for what happened, no matter how yummy or horrible it was. What happened is done, it is over and it is finished. You can choose to stop living in the past; or choose to drown yourself in pity, shame and regret. If you learn to only reflect about the past and accept that what happened was just that, which is the past, you will be free to live in this moment. This moment is now, not what happened to you in the past.
Now is the time to reflect on what past times has brought us and to make a better future. You might say why even care to make such summaries? But I believe it’s essential to look from a distance at what we have achieved and assess our own selves and importantly learn our lesson and draw conclusions for a nicer tomorrow. I know making up mind and taming it is quite a task. It is indeed a primary goal to never stop improving from time to time for you. It is important we know that “Success is a journey, not a destination.” Change your perception, change your mindset, stay away from negative people in life, set goals for yourself, be it small or big, learn to forgive and stop trying to impress people. The more you dwell and live in your past, the slower you move. That moment you start making your past a dwelling house begins your failure to move forward. – Out with the old, in with the new to make a beautiful tomorrow.
